What should I keep in mind when choosing my sitting room light?

Consider your ceiling height, making sure to choose a fitting size appropriate. Choose a fitting that will give the optimum amount of light for your room size. Dimmable fittings or those that come with dimmer switches allow you to change the atmosphere in the room immediately.

How long does my ceiling light need to be?

As a rule of thumb, you should aim for your light to have a minimum of 7 feet of clearance between the floor and the base of the ceiling light.

I don’t have the room for a centre fitting have you any suggestions for something else?

Wall lights are perfect for sitting/living rooms, they are both practical and atmospheric throwing shadows on your wall or you can use up/downlighter to illuminate the room. How about an Arc floor lamp in the corner of your room or extended over your dining table or sofa, or perhaps a floor lamp with a reading arm making reading easier while also illuminating the room.
