What's the difference between a lamp shade and a ceiling light shade?

They differ in how they attach. A table or floor lamp shade sits on a ring or frame above the bulb, using a spider, duplex or clip fitting. A ceiling light shade, often called an easy-fit, simply pushes onto the pendant holder with no tools. Check which fitting your lamp or pendant uses before you buy, so the shade sits right.

How do I choose the right size lamp shade?

Get the proportions right and the lamp looks balanced. As a rule of thumb, the shade should be about two-thirds the height of the lamp base and a little wider than the widest part of the base, so it covers the bulb and fitting. For a ceiling shade, scale it to the room, a bigger shade suits a bigger space.

Do light shades change the light itself?
