What's the difference between a bollard and a post light?

A bollard is a short, sturdy post, usually knee to waist height, that throws light down and around onto a path, driveway or border. A post or lamp-post light is taller, often 1.5m or more, and works as a feature at an entrance, gateway or the end of a drive, from modern stainless designs to traditional carriage and lantern styles.

What IP rating do outdoor bollards need?

The IP rating tells you how well a fitting is sealed against water. For a bollard or post light, IP44 is the minimum for a sheltered spot, while IP65 is the safer choice for open, exposed positions that take the full weather. In coastal areas especially, look for corrosion-resistant materials like stainless steel or coated aluminium so the salt air doesn't shorten the life of the fitting.

LED, sensors and dusk-to-dawn?
