Crystal Wall Lights

Crystal wall lights give you the sparkle of a chandelier at eye level. They are the fitting to use when a room needs atmosphere rather than more light from the ceiling, and they work particularly well in pairs.

What types of crystal wall lights are available?

The range covers three shapes. Traditional arm fittings carry the crystal on one or two curved arms and match the crystal chandeliers in the same family, including the Marie Therese frames. Flush crystal plates sit close to the wall and suit a narrow hall or a corridor. Single drops hang a small amount of crystal from a compact backplate, which is the discreet option.

Most are cut crystal on a metal frame, with a small acrylic selection for anywhere the weight or the price matters more than the cut.

Where should I use crystal wall lights?

They work best where you want glamour without a full ceiling fitting.

• Living and sitting rooms – a pair either side of a fireplace or a mirror. Living room wall lights at this height give the room a second, softer light source for the evening, which a ceiling fitting on its own never does. See living and sitting room lighting.

Mount them at roughly 1.6m to 1.7m from the floor, which puts the crystal just above eye level for most people standing. Lower in a bedroom, level with the top of the headboard.

Put them on a dimmer and one pair does two jobs: full brightness when you need it, low light when you want the room to feel different.

Finishes: chrome, gold and brass

Chrome is the biggest part of this range and the neutral pairing with clear crystal. The frame disappears and the drops do the work, which is what you want in a modern room.

Gold wall lights read as warmer and more formal, and hold their own against darker walls and richer colours. Antique gold and champagne are the softer versions.

Brass wall lights suit older houses, painted walls and anywhere a cold finish would look out of place. Antique brass develops depth with age. Brushed brass is the flatter, more modern take.

Matching a room as a set

The reason to buy crystal wall lights from the same family as your ceiling fitting is that the crystal matches. Cut, size and colour of the drops vary between manufacturers, and two crystal fittings that are almost the same look worse together than two that are obviously different.

Bulbs

Most of these fittings take small E14 candle lamps. Choose a clear lamp rather than an opal one, because clear glass is what makes the crystal sparkle. Our E14 LED bulbs are dimmable, and on a pair of wall lights you want both bulbs identical.
